Native Planting is Smart Planting

Native plants are growing in popularity for numerous reasons. The benefits they provide to local ecosystems are crucial for sustainable landscapes. Plants like Berlandiera lyrata 'Chocolate Flower', which provides colorful yellow blooms for eye appeal, attract butterflies and are important for other beneficial insects' sustenance. The benefits keep on coming when noticing the ease of maintenance. Native plants are naturally adjusted to the climate and soil conditions of a particular region so the stress of maintenance is basically removed. With less need to fertilize and apply controls, they foster a more organic way of gardening which is healthier for all of us. So when thinking of where to direct your garden in the future, consider native and, as always, please contact us for any questions!

Plumbing a Lifeline for Plants

Oy vey! What a day here at Gateway. We found a leak and are now installing new plumbing so our plant friends (who will be here shortly..hooray!) are ensured a hospitable place to stay. Technical tractor skills are a must when maneuvering in the tight spaces around here and Steve was the man for the job. John was in the 3.5 foot hole digging by hand what the tractor couldn't get to so he is a little sore right now. We do this kind of work ourselves and take pride in the range of abilities our staff has.

Don't fret, opening day is Saturday, March 2nd and we are smooooth sailing!

Planting Seeds for the Future

"Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant."
-Robert Louis Stevenson

Old Bob got it right here. We are planting our seeds everyday here at Gateway to ensure a future healthier environment. When we read this quote, we think native. Plant native and the benefits will be obvious to you whether it's the fostering of wildlife, preventing invasive species, requiring low maintenance, or the simple beauty that is shared with these fantastically beneficial plants!
